My husband and I went to Shoreline Restaurant for the first time tonight. This is their closing weekend for the season, so I was not sure what to expect. I had the Tempura Coconut shrimp and my husband had the lamb stew. Both was really delicious. Salad was fresh and crisp. If I would say anything critical, it would be that the martinis were a little weak. Our waitress was very friendly and we did not spend a fortune for the meal. We will definately go back the next time we are in tow.

The view here is wonderful. The whitefish is great, and it's nice that they prepare it in so many different ways. I had it "roma" style which was incredible, and my husband had it with cheese which he really liked. Skip dessert and grab a slice of pie at one of the many shops along Rt. 42 to save yourself some money and taste.

A restaurant on the water totes its bounty and uses it as a spiel to lure [white] fish-hungry tourists. It is just that though--a spiel--because it certainly does not actually give you the goods from right outside its doors. The Shoreline overlooks the opening to Death's Door, and unfortunately, their food was "dead" too. The restaurant is 'known' for its fish, but it was not present in even the whitefish chowder, a supposed specialty. Potato and cream were the only present ingredients. Even salt was nowhere to be found. Being that the namesake is fished on the banks not far from the Shoreline's doorstep, I was sad for the poor showing in the chowder. The other absentee seafood ingredient was the real crab in items like the crab melt, but yet there was real crab in the prefab crab cakes (smothered in a wannabe remoulade sauce). Toss a $12 tag on the cakes, and you're essentially pay $4 for each too-perfect disk of breaded crab. For the frozen variety, $12 is far too steep. I can only guess that they came premade, because they--along with the cheese curds--were delivered far too quick. To put it in perspective, we were seated around 5:10 p.m. and were leaving by 5:50 p.m. The whitefish wrap was tasty. I enjoy the like at Charlie's Smokehouse. The dill cream cheese was a nice complement, but the rogue scallion was too harsh. Green onions have a sharp, sometimes hot taste on the buds, and it would be better received if it was chopped. In addition, there was a whole lot of spinach tortilla and the filling was not as abundant. The lone item that receives a full thumbs up are the beer battered fries. Although I doubt they were hand-battered, they were still delicious. They were very crunchy, and had an almost buttery taste. I don't think one exceptional side dish justifies a $100 check. I am wondering if the older community has lost some of their sense of taste, because they were lined up before 5:00 p.m. Maybe they like the Shoreline because of the quick turnaround. Homemade takes longer than 40 minutes and it doesn't necessarily cost $100. I am willing to pay top dollar for from-scratch fare. Unfortunately, they scratched that at the Shoreline.

We went to the Shoreline last Friday and it was pretty good. We arrived around 6:30 and while we had to wait about 45 minutes it was no problem because we were able to sit in the back and have a few drinks over looking the water. The Asian Crab Cakes appetizer was very good. I ordered the Breaded Gulf Shrimp Dinner and my girlfriend ordered the New York Strip. I was a bit underwhelmed with my Shrimp but it was tasty nonetheless. Her steak was very good. Good service, good food, great view. Will be going back for sure next time we visit Ellison Bay.

Pretty good stuff here... The view is the best thing here, and it doesn't cost a thing... Get here at 445 in the evening. They do not accept reservations and the doors open at 5. There was a line at 445! Great beer selection, great shrimp, great cod! Well worth the drive to Gills Rock.

We love coming to this place for their amazing food and beer/wine selections. Both of those are 5's, the whitefish chowder is by far the best I've ever had in door county. We also love the beautiful location and views of the bay. The bad: the host today was rude and crabby beyond relief to everyone. Few of us started chatting about how weird it was. Then we sat at the bar to have a beer while we waited, and were informed by other patrons that the bartender had just decided to leave. What...? And then our server had such an attitude. 1 for service, 5 for food drinks and atmosphere!

The portion sizes are H U G E. There wasn't a chance of my finishing the amount of vegetable lasagna given to me. It was pretty good. The rest of my group generally enjoyed their meals, especially the steak and fries. My group didn't really order much in the way of fish, which is what this place is known for. There were several vegetarian options, which is not the norm for a seafood place. PROS: Nice drive to the tip of the peninsula to arrive, 2 meals in 1 because of portion sizes, fries were a big hit, vegetarian options, decent non-seafood food, able to accommodate fairly large groups CONS: The meal price seemed more for the massive amount if food than the deliciousness, menus were swiped so we never ended up trying the beer

Very nice place for lunch. Can't get a better view as they are up on a hill and the bay spreads out in front of you. I had the whitefish sandwich and my wife had the "Santa Barbara" chicken sandwich. The rolls were very fresh and moist. The size of my fish could have been larger but it filled me up. The chicken sandwich was nice size. Both were cooked quite good. Main complaint were the fries. Kinda greasy and a bunch stuck together and were still raw. I'd go again.

Ribs not their specialty My wife and I had a pleasant trip to Washington island. We had over an hour wait to get a ride back to the mainland, so we used that time to plan our dinner. We wanted somewhere close to the ferry landing, as it was getting late, so we picked The Shoreline Restaurant in Gills Rock. We waited an hour to get a table, but from their reviews it sounded like it would be worth it. The menu had several specials, and fall off the bone ribs was one of them. We both love ribs, so we went with that. Our ribs were not the tender fall off the bone as listed, but we're fairly tough, and some of my wife's ribs were not completely cooked and had some raw spots. The reason for our low rating.

Maybe 3.5 stars. The location and view is amazing and the staff were fantastic. The food was hit or miss. Whitefish dip was yummy. Would get again. We also had the whitefish with chanterelle mushrooms special. The description said it was a white wine sauce...it was a cream sauce. The fish itself was slightly over cooked. Mushrooms were tasty and plentiful. Other food was okay, but not fantastic. If they just stepped up their food game, they could be the toast of the door.

Great view, decent menu, questionable service. We were there around Sunday brunch time. Big tables filled the place, so I understood that our 2-top wasn't the highest priority. However, it was rough to get coffee refills and food came out room temp. Not to say I wouldn't return, I'd just go in with lower expectations

We got the Clipper, 1/2 sandwich (choice of roast beef or turkey) and choice of cup of soup (whitefish chowder, chili, or soup of the day), and the Marni (bbq bacon cheeseburger), and a side of beer fries. I opted to with the whitefish chowder and turkey sandwich. The sandwich came on plain white bread, cold deli turkey meat, lettuce, tomato, and pickle spear. The sandwich was uninteresting but the whitefish chowder was a real winner. Whitefish itself doesn't have a whole lot of flavor, but the soup had big chunks of red potato, corn, onion, and great base. The burger was disappointing, meat was not juicy nor did it seem it was made fresh, or hand formed. It was mediocre at best, the only great thing was the side of fruit and coleslaw that came with it. For a $10 a la cart, it was a pitiful excuse for a burger. The weird thing is that they don't provide full service if you sit on the patio. You have to go in, get your own water or drink order, bring that outside yourself, and go back in to place your food order with the bartender. They most service we received was when they came and brought out our food. Aside from the view, this place is completely passable.

I came here on Mother's Day for lunch with my husband and infant. The food was excellent. I had the smoked whitefish wrap which tasted as good as it looked (holy bad breath, batman). My husband had the perch sandwich and fries and it disappeared before I could try it. At the end they brought me a free slice of key lime pie for... Being a mom on Mother's Day I guess? It was soooo good. I'm not one to order dessert but this pie is a must have. I didn't manage to take a picture because I was enjoying it so much.

Stopped in for Bloody Mary's. I'd like to say it was very good but it was just okay. Tasted like tomato juice with some celery salt. The worst part is that the bartender spilled one and it went all over me. I didn't even get a I'm sorry. Very disappointed that I have to walk around all day like this.

I can't say enough great things about the shoreline. They have a great beer and wine list. I started with my favorite spotted cow (on tap) then had a glass of rose for dinner. For starters we had the Asian crab cakes and smoked whitefish dip. It was to die for. The dip comes with homemade pita chips. Seriously, I could eat this every day. For dinner I had the whitefish special. My family had the crabmelt and pesto pasta with scallops and chicken. I was so full but couldn't resist one of their many home made desserts! Will definitely be back!

After the charm of location fades, the mediocrity of the food comes through. The fish is good but will cost you. I had the spaghetti special which was a complete joke. The pasta was over cooked, meatballs tasted frozen, the sauce was boring, and the sausage was barely there. Our waitress, while nice and prompt, forgot my side of American fries; probably because, she didn't write it down. The desserts have been the same for years. This place needs a major update, imho.

We waited 30 minutes for lunch while they skipped over us on the waitlist for 2 other parties. No idea what the food is like, but lost our appetites because of the extra wait. Maybe it was an accident, but still not cool.

We've been going to the Shoreline for years, and we always take our guests there for lunch. It's a nice spot a and a nice drive from Jacksonport. They always do a great job, but lately we've been a little disappointed in the whitefish chowder. I love potatoes, but the chef needs to use more fish. A few tiny bites does not make a fish chowder! Also, for a somewhat upscale restaurant, they need to accept AMEX, please.

What a view and yummy food to go along with it! So glad we made the right turn and to think hubby didn't want to stop. The view was breath taking! The food was tasty, I hardly ever order fried fish but I tried the deep fried cod basket it was fresh flakey and light. Interesting fries and probably the best coleslaw I've every had. Hubby had a handmade mushroom Swiss burger on a fresh deli roll tender and juicy. As if we had any room but hearing the table next to us order pie we couldn't resist. We had the most amazing cherry pie ever. Ton's of cherries not to sweet not to tart and none of that gloppy thick sauce common in most pies. Our server was awesome and she even told us the local bakery they use. We stopped and got one to take home!!!!

We came for dinner on a Thursday evening and waited about 20 minutes for a table with a view. It was worth it. The view was beautiful. I had the PECAN ENCRUSTED WALLEYE W/ ASIAN DIPPING SAUCE. It was perfect! It is served on a wild rice blend. Every bite was a treat. The veggies on the side were flavorful too. My husband had the Perch dinner which was also very good, but not as outstanding as the walleye. Plating was very nice. The bread was just plain white bread. Service was good. Our waitress was friendly and helpful.

My wife and I visited The Shoreline for second time this past weekend (first time was last summer) and continued to not only enjoy the food, but the view is simply amazing. Service was great and food was delicious. My wife had the Perch basket, which was lightly breaded/fried and absolutely perfect. I opted for a salad (don't beat me up manly yelpers), which was beets and gorgonzola. Awesome! What I love most is that most people don't have the time or think of traveling as far north to Gill's Rock, but this little gem along with the amazing views are worth the extra 10 minutes. Its a cool stop and the since the restaurant is right on the water, you can enjoy the views while having a cocktail at the bar or enjoying lunch. We will be back for sure.

We stopped at the Shoreline on a weekday in August. They are open from 11-3 then close for a couple of hours and open again for dinner. We arrived around 2 and were promptly seated. Our food was a bit above average and the service was excellent. We were told it was the best food in Door County so were a bit disappointed. We felt pressure to finish and get out so that didn't feel right. Maybe we have not gone so late. My bad. Nice clean place, just didn't enjoy being pressured out by cleaning people and grumpy hostess. Go there, it is nice.

Dined for dinner with my wife. We were impressed with the quality of the food and overall service. Plus, we had a nice view of the bay from our table. On a Friday night, we waited about 30+ minutes for a party of 2, but it's well worth the wait! I enjoyed the perch special while my wife enjoyed a New York Strip Steak. We will be coming back for years to come!

We had a wonderful time at the Shoreline Restaurant. After driving up to Door County we wanted to stop for a good lunch before we headed over to Washington Island for the afternoon. The staff was warm and inviting and gave great suggestions. I had the Smoked Whitefish wrap which was good. My wife ordered the Asian Crab Cakes which she absolutely loved. She even let me try a bite and they were great. They were flavorful and cheesy. My wife ordered a Bloody Mary which was a little tame but still good and my beer was served really cold. The sweet potato chowder was the unexpected hit of our lunch. It was phenomenal. I would order it again without giving it a second thought. It was really relaxing having good food and drinks while looking out over the water. I would recommend stopping here for lunch anytime.

Unbeatable view of the Bay. The breaded Flounder was huge and the best fish I have ever had; at $14 it was about a third of the price of the small portion of fish I got at the fancy "Chives" in Baileys Harbor the night before. You may be lucky enough to have our super hot server as well.

The average Door County dining experience makes for a unique, lasting memory. The Shoreline Restaurant is no exception. The food is terrible, the portions are inadequate, and the prices exorbitant. Our group of four collectively ordered the white fish spinach wrap, the cheeseburger, the salmon salad, and the kids macaroni for a 6-year old. The white fish wrap was merely a cream cheese wrap with a scant of white fish thrown in. The cheeseburger was about 4 ounces of substandard meat, with a sliver of watermelon and pineapple on the side. The salmon salad was hands down the only decent item we received; nevertheless, the small amount of salmon over prepackaged mixed greens doesn't deserve any degree of praise. Last but not least is the kids mac and cheese: Kraft's finest with cheddar cheese clumped on the top. This mediocre meal which could easily be conjured in one's own kitchen, came to a whopping $51.00 before tip. The Shoreline Restaurant should be reserved for those without taste buds, an appetite, or an indifference on price. This will not be the highlight to your Door County visit.

Shoreline has great views over the Bay. We wanted fish and they had several choices. Most of the choices had a cream sauce or cheese which is a little heavy for me. Service was friendly and prompt. We got the fish wrap and walleye. Both had bones in them which after a few it made enjoying the fish difficult and for $21 walleye you shouldn't find a lot of bones.

Great place to watch the sunset! You can enjoy a beverage on the outdoor patio. Bonus was that the cuisine is just as good as the scenery. I had the pecan encrusted walleye served on rice pilaf. Delicious. White fish Roma style was also Tasty. All meals come with salads and sides. Plus a children's menu.

My husband and I stopped in here for lunch. Of course we had to sit at the bar since the football game was on. But I didn't mind - the bar is beautiful granite and the bartender was so sweet. We still had great views of the water and the game at the same time. My husband got the Rueben sandwich and it was probably the best ones he'd ever had. I tried a bite and it was delicious. It was made with lean corned beef and you could tell the difference - it just had an excellent flavor. I had the whitefish wrap and it was a little heavy on the cream cheese, but still delish with fresh green onion, chives and dill. Sandwiches are served with fruit, which is a nice alternative to greasy fries. They have some decent beers on tap including Bell's Octoberfest (during September) and Leinenkugel - after all, we are in Wisconsin. I think this is a must stop if you are in the area - even if it's just for a beer. The views are amazing, food great, and the people working here are sweet as cherry pie.

I had dinner here on May 2, 2014. I had my usual here which is broiled whitefish. It was fantastic. The absolute best. I always eat here each time I visit door county. The view of the lake is great.

Every year, for over 30 years, my family convenes from all corners of the country (Boston, Chicago, & Mpls) and we head to Door County. And every year, without fail, we wait in line for the restaurant to open for dinner, to get the same table, in the same corner of the restaurant, watch the same sun set on the same gorgeous lake, and have the same food. Whitefish chowder. Yes, I've tried it everywhere else in Door. And I get chowder all the time in Boston. No one does it better than the Shoreline. Worth waiting in line, worth whatever else you might not like (I can't imagine what). I look forward to it every year leading up to my visit to Door, and it's always spectacular.

We had a wonderful dinner. In the off season there was no waiting time and we got there just in time for a spectacular view of the sunset over the bay. The staff was great and the food fantastic with great suggestions on wine. I appreciated being able to get local perch and my wife enjoyed her burger as well. Way more reasonable than some other places in Door County and they had great food.

If it weren't gray, cloudy, and raining, this place would've been an incredible spot to watch the sunset during dinner. Unfortunately, the gods of Wisconsin weather weren't going to answer our prayers for clear skies and warm weather during our trip to Door County. There was no wait that Saturday night, so we stepped right up and sat at a table by the window. There's a full bar in the other room and some more window seating. Service was great - friendly, helpful and not overbearing (I think her name was Chris?) Lowdown on Food: - Warm sourdough bread was offered before the meal. - Entrees came with salad, a choice of starch (wild rice, baked potatoes, french fries, american fries), and a side of fruit. -Pan-fried, breaded Whitefish: FISHY. I had to douse it with lemon in order to take away that fishy smell and taste. Could've been good, but hard to swallow down with that smell. - Lambchop: YUM! it was tender, tasty, and not that gamey. Definitely try this. Need a dash more of salt for me. - Key Lime Pie: homemade, tart and light. Pretty good way to finish the meal Overall, we had a good time. The only thing that bothered me was the whitefish dish that the server recommended. If you come during some nice weather, get a reservation and watch the sunset over the peninsula. It would've been gorgeous...

I have been coming to Door County annually with my cousins for the past 15 years. In the past five years, the Shoreline has become our "last night, nice night out" favorite. The staff are very friendly. The whitefish is delicious and every salad and soup I have tasted A+. I live in San Francisco and consider myself somewhat a foodie. In SF, this place would be a local hit (just like it is in Door County.)

If you're looking for a dining destination to watch the sunset in Door County, then Shoreline Restaurant is the place. On a Monday night there was an hour long wait for our group of 3 so expect to sit at the bar (or out on the patio) and enjoy a drink. Beautiful setting and the staff was all very friendly. There was a slight debacle with my pregnant friend and the AC blowing directly on her, but other than that it was a great dining experience. I had trouble deciding on an entree, but our server steered me towards the salmon with a 5 berry butter (which was more of a coulis) that was delicious and perfectly cooked. Vegetables and rice pilaf made for nice side courses, and though the plate was certainly colorful there seemed to be a lot going on with their presentation. I would certainly recommend Shoreline Restaurant and would come back here on future visit to Door County.

Average food. Great atmosphere. The view is amazing. The device is also really good. The food is just average. Nothing to get too excited about...

We had a great meal stating with the Whitefish Dip and cheese curds. The special was crab stuffed pasta shells and they were wonderful. The grilled ahi tuna was also delicious. Beautiful views too!

Always a must when in DC. Whitefish chowder is the best in the Midwest. Go early to avoid a wait. View can not be beat.
